Bartimaeus is a true neutral, who can lean towards Chaotic Good, but who is ultimately bound by his charges and who also ultimately is primarily interested in his own well-being and survival. When forced to choose between the well-being of others and his own self interest he will almost always place his needs and desires first. He's jaded, sarcastic, and untrusting - and while he can be profoundly loyal to those who have earned his loyalty, this has happened less than a handful of times in the past five thousand years. Similarly, he can act out of primarily altruistic motives but this is very rare.
